Today, it's burning outside. As i live in France, I'm living through the worst heatwave registered since 2003, the year I was born. My mom thinks about it a lot those days, she was pregnant with me, locked in the house in the dark with no AC. I arrived on one of the worst days of the heatwave, in august and I feel sorry for her just thinking about it. The 2000's are talked about a lot lately, I think it relies a lot on nostalgia and idealization and sometimes I get caught by this enjoyment. At the time technology felt new, it was a new millenium and people held this future high. Everything was possible and technology felt like hope, not like a threat.

Asset

This idealisation of the 2000's could stem from wanting to start over, at least it's the case for me. As the heat boils my brain I can't help but wonder, what could have been ? I see green cities, blue interiors, pure water, clean energy, and community. This feeling of injustice is held deep in my stomach. The grass was cut under the feet of many scientists, scholars, militants and it can sometimes feel helpless.

But still, we must try to not fall into desperation. The living habitating this hearth is a gift, the very conditions met for us to live, breath and perceive are absolutly miraculous. We are not different from our environment, we are part of it. From the stars to the core of the earth we share the same formula, the same molecules. When we look up at the blue immensity of space, it is simply a mirror, as much as it is when we look at a plant.

Who knows if trying to repare the damages will be successful, only the future holds the truth. For the remaining time I think we should understand that our actions are useful, every seed that we plant, every conversations and every acts of kindness has consequences. We might as well try.
